5000 Year Old Vedic Shanti Mantra
The well-known Śloka “Sarveṣāṁ Svastir Bhavatu” is an universal peace Mantra, found in the ancient vedic sankrit texts, which have been passed down for thousands of years. This prayer is a Śānti Mantra (peace invocation) from the Atharva Veda (19.67) and is also quoted in later compilations of the Upaniṣads.
ॐ सर्वेषां स्वस्तिर् भवतु ।
सर्वेषां शान्तिर् भवतु ।
सर्वेषां पूर्णं भवतु ।
सर्वेषां मङ्गलं भवतु ।
ॐ शान्ति शान्ति शान्तिः ॥
oṁ sarveṣāṁ svastir bhavatu |
sarveṣāṁ śāntir bhavatu |
sarveṣāṁ pūrṇaṁ bhavatu |
sarveṣāṁ maṅgalaṁ bhavatu |
oṁ śānti śānti śāntiḥ ||
Meaning:
1) May there be auspiciousness (svasti) unto all
2) May there be peace (śānti) unto all
3) May there be completeness (pūrṇaṁ) unto all
4) May there be prosperity (maṅgalaṁ) unto all
5) Oṁ peace, peace, peace

मङ्गलाचरणं देवानां च सर्वे सुखिनो भवन्तु ।
मङ्गलाचरणं देवीनां च सर्वे शुभमङ्गलम् ।।
maṅgalācaraṇaṁ devānāṁ ca sarve sukhino bhavantu |
maṅgalācaraṇaṁ devīnāṁ ca sarve śubhamaṅgalam ||
May all the gods and goddesses be happy, and may all beings be blessed with happiness and well-being.
अश्विनौ मम सख्यौ देवाः सुरगणेश्वरौ ।
उभावपि महाबाहू द्रष्टुमिच्छामि विश्ववनौ ।।
aśvinau mama sakhyau devāḥ suragaṇeśvarau |
ubhāvapi mahābāhū draṣṭumicchāmi viśvavanau ||
I desire to see the two Aśvins, my friends and the lords of the celestial beings, who have great arms and are renowned throughout the world.
देवाः सर्वे दिशो हन्तु दिशो नो जातवेदः ।
देवाः सर्वे सुखं धन्यं सर्वे स्वस्ति भवन्तु नः ।।
devāḥ sarve diśo hantu diśo no jātavedaḥ |
devāḥ sarve sukhaṁ dhanyaṁ sarve svasti bhavantu naḥ ||
May the gods destroy all the obstacles and lead us in all directions. May they bless us with happiness, prosperity, and well-being.
मङ्गलं भगवान् विष्णुर् मङ्गलं गरुडध्वजः ।
मङ्गलं पुण्डरीकाक्षो मङ्गलाय तनो हरिः ।।
maṅgalaṁ bhagavān viṣṇur maṅgalaṁ garuḍa-dhvajaḥ |
maṅgalaṁ puṇḍarīkākṣo maṅgalāya tano hariḥ ||
May Lord Viṣṇnu, who rides on Garuḍa and has lotus-like eyes, bless us with prosperity and happiness.
सर्वे मङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके ।
शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ।।
sarve maṅgalamāṅgalye śive sarvārthasādhike |
śaraṇye tryambake gauri nārāyaṇi namo’stu te ||
O Mother Nārāyaṇi, who is the refuge of all, the three-eyed Gauri, who fulfills all desires, may you be pleased with us and bless us with all auspiciousness.

VEDIC MANTRAS FOR WORLD PEACE
सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः ।
सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चिद् दुःख भाक् भवेत् ॥
sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ sarve santu nirāmayāḥ |
sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu mā kaścid duḥkha bhāk bhavet ||
May all beings be happy, may all be free from disease,
May all find what they seek, and may none experience sorrow.
काले वर्षतु पर्जन्यः पृथिवि सस्य शालिनि ।
देशोऽयं क्षोभ रहितो ब्राह्मणाः सन्तु निर्भयाः ॥
kāle varṣatu parjanyaḥ pṛthivi sasya śālini |
deśo’yaṁ kṣobha rahito brāhmaṇāḥ santu nirbhayāḥ ||
May the rains fall on time, and may the earth yield its produce in abundance,
May this country be free from disturbances, and may the righteous be free from fear.
अपुत्राः पुत्रिणस् सन्तु पुत्रिणस् सन्तु पौत्रिणः ।
अधन सधन सन्तु जिवन्तु शरदश् शतम् ॥
aputrāḥ putriṇas santu putriṇas santu pautriṇaḥ |
adhana sadhana santu jivantu śaradaś śatam ||
May the childless obtain children and may parents become grandparents,
May the poor become prosperous and may all live a hundred autumns.
सर्वे तरतु दुर्गाणि सर्वो भद्राणि पश्यतु ।
सर्व कामान् अवाप्नोतु सर्व सर्वत्र नन्दतु ॥
sarve taratu durgāṇi sarvo bhadrāṇi paśyatu |
sarva kāmān avāpnotu sarva sarvatra nandatu ||
May all beings cross over their tribulations, and may all attain their respective goals,
May all realize their desires and may all beings at all times and places be happy.
दुर्जन सज्जन भूयात् सज्जनो शान्तिम् आप्नुयात् ।
शान्तो मुच्येत बन्धेभ्य मुक्ताश्चान्य विमोचयेत् ॥
durjana sajjana bhūyāt sajjano śāntim āpnuyāt |
śānto mucyeta bandhebhya muktāścānya vimocayet ||
May the wicked become righteous, and may the righteous attain peace,
May the peaceful attain Liberation, and may they help others to be Liberated.

ॐ असतो मा सद् गमय – oṁ asato mā sad gamaya — From untruth lead us to truth
तामसो मा ज्योतिर् गमय – tāmaso mā jyotir gamaya — From ignorance lead us to wisdom
मृत्योर् मा अम्रितं गमय – mṛtyor mā amritaṁ gamaya — From death lead us to immortality
ॐ शान्ति शान्ति शान्तिः – oṁ śānti śānti śāntiḥ — oṁ, peace, peace, peace
“Sarveṣāṁ Svastir Bhavatu” is an invocation for harmony and blessings for all of creation (Lokakṣema) and uplifts the chanter (singer) to move beyond thoughts of personal welfare towards the well-being of the entire creation.
The beauty of this Śānti Śloka lies in its simple language, which can be easily recited and understood. It is a peaceful and auspicious mantra from the Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad, praying for the well-being, peace, completeness, and prosperity of all beings. It is often chanted as a universal prayer for harmony, peace and happiness across the world and became famous by the song of Tina Turner.
